Summer Beers – Random Thoughts

I have been looking forward to this for months now, Summer beers! It seems most microbreweries out there have some sort of “Summer” themed beer, be it a summer style or fruit based beer. Personally I love the fruit based ones a lot because you really get a sense of the Brew Masters style in how they turn out (And that is what I will focus on today).

Now I do not like the fruit beers that tend to be over sweetened (I have tasted a handful that seem to have extra sugar added to “heighten” the fruit flavors). I like the natural flavors of the fruit to be balanced with the style of beer.

Here is a short list of some that I’ve had and rank higher in my over all list.
*Note not all of these are Summer or Seasonal

Abita – Strawberry Wheat (Does push the sweet side but, just ever so slightly)
Pyramid – Apricot Lager (One of my favorite beers in general)
Dogfish Head – Festina Pêche (Best Peach beer out there I believe)
Bell’s – Cherry Stout (Need I say more?)
Bar Harbor – Blueberry Ale (not the #1 BB beer but easy to find & refreshing)
Samuel Adams – Blackberry Witbier (Very refreshing on Humid Ohio days)

I know this turned more into a post about fruit based beers but I will post more thoughts soon on other summer styles.
