Bourbon Barrel Aged – B.O.R.I.S Oatmeal Imperial Stout

A few years ago (more then I care to admit) I tried my first bourbon barrel aged beer, which sadly I found to disagree with me. It wasn’t until about a year later at Jackie O’s Brew Pub in Athens Ohio that I stumbled upon one that I loved so much it hooked me right into the style. Now Jackie O’s has many bourbon barrel aged versions of their beers and I cannot recall which one it was exactly.

This being said I was recently given to me by a good friend Scott Brookey a bottle of Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. from Hoppin’ Frog based in Akron Ohio. I am a fan of the various versions of the B.O.R.I.S but had yet to try the Barrel Aged. It’s very apparent at the start with bourbon flavor bursting out followed by a balanced chocolate and coffee malt sweetness then finishing with a nice hoppy bourbon kick (and at 60 IBUs I would hope so). If you are in the Ohio area I would rush to get your hands on a bottle or two of this lovely brew while you can, I hear it is limited in release.
