My Beermosa, WOO

Now I realize that I am not the first one to come up with this idea (or maybe I am and everyone else has been stealing my thunder) but the beermosa is something I have been enjoying for a few months. The idea is simple enough, start with orange juice and add your favorite beer ….. well favorite non stout, porter, or bourbon barrel aged beer. I found the darker and heavier beers do not pair so well with orange juice… BUT the good news is you don’t have to use just orange juice!

Here are a few combinations that I came up for various beers and juices:

Blueberry Juice and Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout – 3/5  juice and 2/5 stout (this also worked with Guinness but I did 2/5 juice and 3/5 stout)

Pomegranate Juice and Samuel Adams Winter Lager – With this I did a 50/50 mix which turned out well.

Orange Juice and Bell’s Two Hearted Ale – This was more a 3/5 juice and 2/5 beer mix. A perfect pairing if I do say so myself.

Orange Juice and Lindemans Framboise – Another 3/5 juice and 2/5 beer mix. This one I think is my favorite of the beermosa experiments so far.

The only downside to the beermosa (this is almost not worth mentioning) is the lack of carbonation that comes with using beer and not champagne. I have figured out a few ways around this but none are cheap and easy unless you happen to have kegging equipment handy, like I do. If you are into a good mimosa and enjoy craft beer and a little experimentation then go out this weekend, grab some juice and beer and get mixing.  Also, don’t forget to leave a comment with your thoughts  and recipes you came up with.

Sláinte,

Ry
